RTK (Rust Token Killer)

by RTK AI

A command-line proxy that summarises git, test and log output before your agent reads it.

What it does

  • Claims 60–90% fewer tokens on common commands (git, tests, ls, logs)
  • But Claude Code reads files with its own tools, which RTK never sees
  • JetBrains trial (80 tasks): no saving, +7.6% more tokens on average

! Only useful if your agent spends its time in the terminal (tests, git). Otherwise the independent trial shows no gain: don't install it by reflex.

Install it

Requirements: Nothing else: a single Rust binary.

Install
brew install rtk
Or via Cargo
cargo install --git https://github.com/rtk-ai/rtk

The prompt for your agent

Paste it into your coding agent: it checks the requirements and installs it for you.

Prompt
Install RTK (Rust Token Killer) (https://github.com/rtk-ai/rtk) on my machine.
1. Check the requirements: Nothing else: a single Rust binary. If anything is missing, tell me before installing anything.
2. Follow the official method:
- Install: brew install rtk
- Or via Cargo: cargo install --git https://github.com/rtk-ai/rtk
3. Check that it works, then explain how to launch it and where to start.

Always review what your agent is about to run, especially install commands.
