Context Mode

by Mert Köseoğlu

Keeps large tool and MCP results out of the conversation: your agent only gets a summary.

26.7 k stars GitHub Elastic-2.0 FreeLocal

What it does

  • Useful if you run lots of MCP servers, a browser (Playwright) or big logs
  • Documented example: 315 KB reduced to 5.4 KB in context
  • Elastic License 2.0: source visible and free to use, but not open source in the strict sense

! Reduction figure supplied by the author, not checked by an independent trial as far as we know.

Install it

Requirements: Node.js; Claude Code (plugin) or any MCP client.

In Claude Code: add the source
/plugin marketplace add mksglu/context-mode
Install the plugin
/plugin install context-mode@context-mode

The prompt for your agent

Paste it into your coding agent: it checks the requirements and installs it for you.

Prompt
Install Context Mode (https://github.com/mksglu/context-mode) on my machine.
1. Check the requirements: Node.js; Claude Code (plugin) or any MCP client. If anything is missing, tell me before installing anything.
2. Follow the official method:
- In Claude Code: add the source: /plugin marketplace add mksglu/context-mode
- Install the plugin: /plugin install context-mode@context-mode
3. Check that it works, then explain how to launch it and where to start.

Always review what your agent is about to run, especially install commands.
